1. Evaluate the following section properties and resistances of the following sections:
I) 457x191x89 I-section S275
I) 254x254x89 H-section S275
Section properties
a. Area,A
b. Second moments of area about y and z axes,Iy and Iz
C. Radii of gyration about y and z axes,iy and iz
d. Elastic section modulus about y and z axes,Wel.y and Wel,z
e. Plastic section modulus about y and z axes,Wpl.y and Wpl,z
f. Torsional constant,IT
Section resistances
g. Axial force (tension or compression)
h. Shear force (parallel to the z-axis)
i. Moment resistances about y and z axes
j. Shear-moment interaction chart for bending about y axis.
k. Axial force-moment interaction chart for bending about y axis.
Fillets are not considered. Calculation from first principles is required.
2 Compare the relative efficiency of the section capacities of both sections.Note that they have the same unit weights.
