Assignment 2 Review of an Asset Management Plan

Project Brief

Assignment 2 will require you to undertake a critique or review of an existing Asset Management Plan (AMP) in any infrastructural asset.  This will entail you obtaining an AMP from the web and then undertaking a review/critique of the plan.  A critique does not necessarily mean that you will be critical of what has been done (although in some situations it may be the case – although you should be aware that there are often good reasons why certain things are or are not undertaken).  It is however appropriate that questions are asked.

You should begin the critique with a 2 paragraph summary of the infrastructure asset under consideration and the controlling organisation's vision, goals and ‘drivers’.  You then complete the review in two parts:

1. Part one -develop a table that lists the different sections you expect to see in the asset management plan, along with the requirements that have to be part of each section (the presentation from Ross Waugh on Canvas provides you with some requirements for each section as a starting point).  For each one of these requirements, you then have to rate how well the AMP covers the requirements.  Your assessment should also indicate the reasoning for the given rating.  The rating table should include all the expected/required sections for an AMP, plus at least 5 criteria to check for under each section.  Additional marks will be given for well presented tables and outputs graphs.

2.  Part two goes into a bit more detail for some of the strengths, but mostly on the limitation areas of the AMP.  In this section you have to go into more detail on why the authority has received a weak rating for a particular area, why is it important to cover the requirement in future plans and what difference will it make to their asset management planning process.  You can conclude the section with a set of brief recommendations.

Some Points to Note:

● 1.  Please don't reproduce any part of the AMP

● 2. Be professional with the way that you state limitations (you don't want to offend your clients)

● 3. Be constructive in the process, ultimately contributing to a better outcome next time around.

The overall review report should be around 8 to 15 pages.
