Question 1

Consider this picture, which is taken from an investor’s presentation:

In no more than 500 words, provide a critique on this slide. You may discuss the story the slide

is trying to tell, the issues you observe, the problems with this visualisation, and how you would

design the data visualisation differently. Please produce your response in MS Word. If you are

comfortable with using RMarkdown to generate your report in MS Word, you are most

welcome to do so.

Question 2

What are the employment outcomes of graduates from our autonomous universities? For this

exercise, we look at the graduate employment survey dataset contained in the folder “graduateemployment-survey-ntu-nus-sit-smu-suss-sutd.zip”.

Assess the employment outcomes of

graduates for the year 2018. Construct your R programs for data visualisation and compose a

data story. For example, you may explore the employability of graduates from different fields

or different universities. From there, you may potentially obtain some insights about the

demand for certain skills in Singapore.

Finally, for National University of Singapore, compare the employment outcomes of their

graduates between 2018 and 2013 (and not the years in between). What do you observe?

Put all your findings into a single report containing no more than 1,500 words. Your report

should contain a short introduction, a summary of the dataset, your data visualisations, and

conclusions. You are not required to report every single visualisation you find. Please pick

what you think are a few interesting ones and write a story about them.

Your report will be evaluated based on the quality of the preliminary data exploration and

analysis, quality of the data visualization design, the data story and insights that you uncover,

the appearance and feel of the data visualization, and the overall clarity and coherence of the

report.

Please produce your output in MS Word. You are, of course, most welcome to use RMarkdown

to produce the MS Word report if you are comfortable with it.

Please submit your codes along with your report. Do make sure that your visualisation work

can be reproduced from your codes.
