Statistical decision making
Final project
Data
For 8 countries in Europe and 8 countries in Latin America download following
data:
1) Co2 emissions (metric tons per capita)
2) Life expectancy at birth
3) GDP per capita
4) Unemployment ($ of total)
For the case of Europe, try to choose 4 countries in the East Europe and 4
countries in the West Europe.
For the case of Latin America, try to choose 4 Central American and 4 South
American countries.
The year of your data should be base on the last digit of your student ID. For
example, if the last digit of your student ID is 6, you should download data for
the year 2006.
For all following sections, you have to show your R code and R output.
Question 1)
Plot life expectancy versus Co2 emissions and GDP per capita versus Unemployment
for European countries and Latin American countries separately (4
plots)
Question 2)
In two tables, report the mean and the variance of each of these variables for
the case of European and Latin American countries separately.
Question 3)
Test the hypothesis that the average life expectancy in Europe is equal to Latin
America. (Write down your hypothesis test)
Test the hypothesis that the average GDP per capita in Europe in greater than
1
Latin America.(Write down your hypothesis test)
Base on your sample size, under what condition your above inferences are correct?
Question 4)
Test whether the spread of Co2 emissions among the European countries is equal
to Latin Americans.
Question 5)
Now divide your 2 samples (Europe and Latin America) in to 4 samples (East
Europe/West Europe and Central/ South America). Check whether Co2 emissions
on average is different among these groups or not.
Question 6)
Consider your whole data set. Regress GDP per capita on Co2 emission, life
expectancy and unemployment rate. Interpret their coefficients and explain
their significance.
