Hydrogen is to be produced by asteam reforming and water-gas shift reaction through CH4 + 2H2O → CO2 + 4H2. A total of 10,000 MJ energy is consumed in the process. Determine the amounts of natural gas consumption and hydrogen production.
Question 3:
Hydrogen is to be produced by water electrolysis process using electricity produced by solar cells. If the efficiency of electrolysis process is 70 percent, determine the amount of electricity consumed (in kWh) for 100 kg of hydrogen production.
Question 4:
Hydrogen is to be produced by water electrolysis process using excess renewable electricity produced by solar cells. The unit cost of this renewable electricity is $0.12/kWh. If the electrolysis process is ideal, determine the amount of hydrogen produced for 1000 kWh of electricity consumed. What is the unit cost of producing hydrogen, in $/kg H2.
