Global Risk and Decision Analysis
2023-2024 Semester 2
General Disciplines:
CHEATING IN ANY FORM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED: It is the student’sresponsibility to understand and adhere to the “PolyU Regulations on Student Plagiarism” as explained at http://edc.polyu.edu.hk/PSP/main-Assessment.htm
Role and Purposes
The role of this subject is to provide, via a case-based teaching and learning approach, a chance for students to develop a deeper understanding of risk and decision analysis tools and application in real business organizations. Students will be challenged to demonstrate their abilities to apply risk and decision analysis tools and improve business operations. The objectives include (i) to enable students to get familiar with different types of risks in global businesses; (ii) to provide the basic skills and conceptual understanding of the most widely applicable methodologies related to decision making and risk analysis; (iii) to develop a process for knowing when and how to conduct managerially relevant analysis under conditions of uncertainty, too many decision variables, and unstructured contexts, using both models and personal judgement.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to:
a. Develop an understanding of global business and understand the concept of business risk;
b. Develop a conceptual understanding of commonly applied decision and risk analysis techniques in the context of global business problems;
c. Apply appropriate strategies and tools available to globalized companies to mitigate and manage risk;
d. Appreciate the power of technological elements in risk and decision analysis.
Studying this subject will help develop students’ creative thinking and equip them with quantitative methods and emerging analytics tools to conduct risk and decision analysis in global business operations.
