Your assessment task |
As an investment portfolio manager, you will develop a tailored portfolio for a specific client using modern portfolio theory, and provide market justifications to support decisions. You will reflect on lessons learnt and incorporate your analysis of external factor influences in your selected security performances. For Part 2: You will conduct data compilation, written analysis and evaluation of portfolio performance and a reflection incorporating critical analysis on decisions made during the project. Part 2 includes excel based calculations, a formal report and a 5 minute video presentation on key takeaways. Specific requirements for RPM Part 2 can be found in Moodle named as “RPM Assignment Part 2” at the end of Week 7. While you are trading, your focus should be on developing your portfolio strategy, research and decision making skills. Ensure you attend tutorials and actively participate in learning activities as these are where you will learn and practise the calculations and analyses you’ll be required to do on your portfolio. |

This assessment accounts for 35% of your total marks for the unit. It has two parts: - Part 1: Progress Report Reflection - 10% - Part 2: Final Submission - 25% |

Submission |
● Via Moodle Assignment Submission. ● Turnitin will be used for similarity checking of all submissions. ● Following three files to be submitted ○ Written Report – either a Word file or a pdf file. (Named as follows: BFF3121_Portfolio Project_xxxxxx. Replace xxxxx with your own student ID) ○ Excel file containing your calculations and analyses (Named as follows: BFF3121_Portfolio Project Analysis_xxxxxx. Replace xxxxx with your own student ID). The same Excel file should contain the detailed trading and transaction history in the second tab and historical portfolio values in the third tab. ○ Submit your 3-5 minute video presentation in .mp4 format. |
Assessment Criteria |
You will be assessed on your ability to: - critically evaluate relevant financial market information using evidence based justifications in order to make informed decisions - produce a tailored, informative and professional report - perform. calculations on accurate, sufficient and relevant data - Present important information professionally, concisely and clearly |
Late Penalties |
● Initial penalty is 5% if assignments are delayed by up to 72 hours. Then 5% penalty per day (including weekends and holidays) of the total marks earned. ● Submissions more than 7 calendar days after the due date will receive a mark of zero (0) and may not receive assessment feedback |

Feedback will be provided on student work via: ● general cohort performance ● specific student feedback 14 working days post submission |
INSTRUCTIONS
PART 2: FINAL SUBMISSION (LO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
In Week 11, you will submit your report and short video presentation. Your report will include:
A. A one page letter to your client outlining how their portfolio performed and why. You can use content common in ROAs and SOAs as guidance.
B. Data collection and some preliminary calculations. You need to include your trading history in your final report. NOTE: trading histories will be confirmed with RPM logs by assessors for authenticity.
C. A provided set of calculations and other requirements for you to produce will be released in week 8.
D. Report: containing the performance analysis and content related interpretations.
E. 3-5 minute video presentation in MP4 format to be uploaded in Moodle. Your face must be visible in the presentation, as you speak to visible slides or visual information. Tools such as Zoom, Canva, PPT can be used.
Requirements
Active trading with minimum 3 trades to be executed for 8 weeks (start of teaching week-2 to end of teaching week-9). All the calculations and analyses should be done in an Excel spreadsheet. An excel template will be provided for students to follow. All the return calculations should be presented as decimals, not percentages, and approximated to six decimal points. You are expected to download the trading history of your account to an Excel spreadsheet on the last day of trading (Saturday, teaching week-9) and add it on the second and third tab on your Excel spreadsheet.
