1. Question
Issues in accounting research uses a group-based assessment approach to complete your assessment package. The assessment package includes an in-course presentation (30%, which is done in tutorials), an in-semester essay (30%) and an after-semester essay (40%).
Main task: Your group is asked to critically evaluate the assigned research paper based on what you have learned in the class.
The questions are based on two pieces of research paper, which are to be released in the due course: the first research paper is released on the date 25 January 2024; the second research paper is released on the date 22 February 2024. Please refer to the paper on Moodle Assessment Briefing Section.
Assessment submission dates are published on Moodle Summative Assessment Submission Areas.
Detailed Assessment guidance and instructions are provided in the first tutorial. We will guide you through the first tutorial to advise how to complete the task.
We will also decide the group members on a voluntary basis in/after first tutorial. Normally there are three students in one group; in certain cases, some groups may have four students based on the tutorial student number.
Essays:
1. all essays (including in-semester essay and after-assessment essay) evaluate the assigned academic research paper from both critique and defence perspectives.
2. word count: for an in-semester essay, 1250 words (+/- 10%, excluding the reference list; for an after-semester essay, 2500 words (+/- 10%, excluding the reference list).
Presentations:
1. Oral presentations are done in the tutorials. They are in person presentations.
2. All presentations slides should be submitted on Moodle by the assessment deadline.
3. On the day of presentation, your group should bring a saved copy of the submitted
slides in an USB to tutorials. Presentation slides should not be changed from the ones submitted. If any slide is changed, penalty marks will be implemented.
4. Each group is allocated to 12 minutes. You should stick to the time allowance. The course lecturer will count the time for the presentation group.
5. Your presentation takes the form. ofeither “critique” or “defence” based on the assigned research paper, depending on your assigned group number. You should not take both sides. Group 1/3/5/7 are critique groups; Group 2//4/6/8 are defence groups.
6. Every member in a group is expected to present.
7. If one student cannot do the presentation due to illness, please inform and arrange the course work with group members; all group members should be updated and discuss what should be done to backup the missing presenter.
8. Permission for missing the presentation should be obtained from the course coordinator at the earliest stage. Otherwise, those students who miss the presentation will not be awarded the individual presentation marks as the other group members do.
